This research belongs to a trend of studies related to the changing relationship between the nature of work and social protection in the context of the transition from Welfare State to Workfare State. It aims to study an emerging form of flexible employment, the so-called "free work". The aims of this project are: describing statistically the phenomenon of free work, establishing a first "mapping" of his many features, defining a taxonomy of it and creating a model in order to estimate missing revenues for social insurances. One of the major goals consists in elaborating a web-based device for collecting and sharing of life experiences related to free work. In the long run, this device should allow us to survey forms of free work and get one step closer to the construction of a Flexible Employment Observatory. The Observatory offers support to policy makers in dealing with issues regarding employment, insurances and social entitlements in the framework of labour protection legislation.
