The development and study of superconducting magnets for the UNK

1992
The authors describe the design of superconducting (SC) dipoles and quadrupoles for the UNK as well as the results of training, mechanical stability, AC losses, and ramp rate characteristics. The results of magnetic measurements are also presented. It is shown that the developed SC dipoles and quadrupoles of the regular UNK lattice satisfy the requirements imposed on the value and quality of the bore field, on the level of AC losses, and on static heat leaks. The chosen design possesses good adaptability to manufacture. The measurement results indicate that the heat load on the cryogenic system of the UNK in the accelerator cycle is about 33 kW. In the collider mode, this load will be twice as small. So, the available power of the cryogenic system for the UNK, 60 kW, will ensure the operation of one SC ring in the accelerator mode or of two SC rings in the collider mode. The temperature reserve of the SC magnets will help to ensure that the ring SC magnet of the UNK will operate reliably at a temperature of liquid helium of 4.4-4.6 K. >
