New Five-Level Double-Flying-Capacitor Inverter Fed by a Boost-Flyback Converter

2020
A new five level inverter with six main inverter switches and two flying capacitors is proposed. A DC-DC boost-flyback converter (BFC) supplies the DC-link and also the two flying capacitors voltages. The principle used results in the smallest thermal stress and losses when compared with other investigated five-level topologies with reduced device count. Operating principle, switching states, and PWM strategy is presented. Simulated and experimental results validate the theoretical studies.
