Halogen oxidation of some diarylthiourea carbonyl complexes of chromium and molybdenum
2004
Halogen oxidation of several sym-diarylthioureas (L), viz., sym-diphenylthiourea (dptu), sym-di-o-tolylthiourea (dottu), sym-di-o-anisidylthiourea (doatu) and syno-di-α-naphthylthiourea (dantu) chromium and molybdenum carbonyls have been studied. The species isolated are heptacoordinated [(L)Mo(CO) 4 X 2 ], hexacoordinated [(L)Cr(CO) 4 X]X and [(L)Cr(CO) 3 X 2 ] (X = Br or I). Mixed ligand molybdenum tricarbonyls, [(bipy)(L)Mo(CO) 3 ] after reaction with bromine or iodine have given[(bipy)Mo(CO) 3 X 2 ] whereas chlorine displaces both diarylthiourea and CO ligands and the product, [(bipy)MoCl 4 ] has been obtained. However, halogen oxidation of [(bipy)(L)Cr(CO) 3 ] has given [(bipy)CrX 2 ] (X = Cl, Br or I). The complexes have been identified by microanalytical data, infrared spectra, conductivity data and magnetic measurements.
