Evaluation of antioxidant activity, phytochemical constituents and Anti-diabetic properties of C763 mulberry leaves

2016
The present study evaluates antioxidant activity, phytochemical constituents and anti-diabetics properties of C 763 mulberry leaf. The antioxidant activity of methanolic and ethanolic extracts of mulberry variety (C 763 ) leaf was estimated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and Ferric power reducing assay (FRAP) and analysis of phytoconstituents through HPLC method. The anti-diabetic effects of C 763 mulberry leaves extract were also observe in diabetic mice. DPPH and FRAP assay revealed that mulberry leaf inhibits more free radical formation than ascorbic acid. In the present study, HPLC Chromatogram of 7-Hydroxycurramin and C 763 mulberry leaves were exhibited almost similar retention times 12.841 and 12.497 respectively. In mulberry leaves extract treated diabetic mice, the blood glucose level, SGOT, SGPT and CAT enzymes activities were decreases whereas the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme activity was increases. In histological examination, liver tissue of mulberry leaves extract treated diabetic mice shown significant changes in cell structure. Hence, present study reported that C 763 mulberry leaves extract has been high antioxidant activity as well as anti-diabetic properties which act as life enhancer of the diabetic mice by the synergetic action of bioactive compounds.
