With the COVID-19 pandemic spreading rapidly around the world, the medical system in many countries is overwhelmed and vital resources such as mechanical ventilators are proving to be insufficient for patients in intensive care units. The article questions how these resources are allocated when they become insufficient and how doctors can be helped to make difficult decisions, following a series of recommendations developed for this type of situation.
