Experimental Study on Long-term Deformation and Strength of Embankment along River
2012
To reveal forming mechanism of longitudinal cracks along river, it is necessary to study the long-term deformation and strength of embankment along river. Through one-dimensional consolidation machine and multi-functional triaxial system of GDS, a series creep tests of existing and new embankment soil were conducted. The thesis systematically discussed secondary consolidation deformation, time-dependent and strength properties. The result showed that the coefficient of secondary consolidation of new embankment was bigger than existing one. The creep deformation accounted for 59.1% of total one when deviatoric stress level was small. Total deformation sharply increased with deviatoric stress level increasing, and the creep deformation accounted for 62.3% of total one. The creep defomation and speed of new emankment exceeded existing one, and the creep deromation of embankment was smaller than foundation. The strength value through triaxial creep shear test was smaller than one through conventional triaxial test. As a result, the creep deformation could not be ignored during deformation analysis. The different long-term deformation properties between the existing and new emankment can cause different settlement, and the pavement would crack.
