THE REDEVELOPMENT OF STRATFORD GASWORKS, EAST LONDON

1997
Following demolition of the Stratford Gasworks, for site redevelopment, it was decided to remediate the site as part of the construction project. Details are given of contract documents which contained site investigation information together with a conceptual design prepared by the Employer's consultants. It was the Tenderer's responsibility to confirm the nature of the ground conditions and to define the remediation design during the tender period. In addition, the documents stated that any design had to be accepted by the regulatory authorities as well as the Employer's consultants. In the preparation of the remediation design there was a requirement, not only to deal with the environmental problem at the site, but also to produce a design which would be the most economic and enable the Tenderer to become the successful Contractor. For the covering abstract see IRRD 898792.
