Axial structure in a theta-pinch plasma

Axial irregularities in a θ‐pinch plasma are observed during the initial breakdown and main discharge phases. The structure is associated with a gas‐breakdown effect. Wavelengths and growth times are consistent with the development of instabilities associated with thermal waves.
