The invention is suitable for the field of face identification, and provides a face detection method and apparatus. The method comprises the following steps: obtaining and storing face data of a plurality of citizens and place and/or time when obtaining the face data; obtaining face data of a specific citizen; matching the face data of the specific citizen with the stored face data of the plurality of citizens; and obtaining relevant information of the citizens, of which the matching degree reaches a preset threshold, wherein the relevant information of the citizens comprises place where face data of the citizens is obtained and /or probability and/ or time that the citizens appear in the place. The face detection method and apparatus is helpful for improving face identification rate.
