A process for preparing a product containing tin (II) carboxylates and tin (IV) and products containing the same

A process for preparing a product containing tin (II) carboxylates of formula (RCOO) -2-n-Sn (OOCR ') n +, where each R, which may be the same or different, is hydrogen or a group of hydrocarbyl C 1 ~ -C ~ ~ ~ 40, each R 'which may be identical or different, is a hydrocarbyl group of C 1 ~ -C ~ ~ ~ 40, n is 0, 1 or 2, the process comprising: (a ) forming a reaction mixture by combining elemental tin, a promoter and one or more carboxylate-containing compounds of the formula R (CO) X, where R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group of C 1 ~ -C ~ ~ 40 ~ and X is a hydroxyl group, a halogen atom, or O (CO) R 'is a hydrocarbyl group of C ~ -C ~ 1 ~ 40 ~; (B) heating the reaction mixture to form a heated reaction mixture; (C) oxidizing the heated reaction mixture using an oxygen-containing gas to form an oxidized reaction mixture containing tin (II) carboxylates and tin IV); and (d) reducing the oxidized reaction mixture with elemental tin to convert at least a portion of the tin carboxylates (IV), tin (II) carboxylates to form the product containing tin (II) carboxylates.
