Discrimination résidentielle et origine ethnique: une étude expérimentale sur les serveurs en Île-de-France

2015
We performed a correspondence test to measure the level of hiring discrimination against young workers from the Paris suburbs. We examine discrimination based on ethnic origin and place of residence. We evaluate simultaneously the effects of place of residence, nationality, sound of the first name and sound of the last name on the probability of being interviewed for a job as a waiter. First, we find significant discrimination against candidates displaying signs of a North African origin. Second, we find significant discrimination against candidates living in a disadvantaged locality, but this effect is stronger for the best-educated applicants and those displaying signs of a French origin. These two mechanisms contribute to an increase in ethnic segregation.
