Simulation of Viewing Angle Characteristics of Vertically Aligned TFT-LCDs with Circular Electrode

A circular electrode structure was presented for Patterned Vertical Alignment(PVA) mode TFT-LCD.This paper simulated its director distributions and iso-contrast contour dependent on the viewing angle for two kinds of circular electrode structures by ExpertLCD software and analyzed the simulation results. The obtained results were compared with that of the conventional PVA mode. The viewing angle of completely circular electrode mode was significantly expanded and the proportion with high contrast ratio was larger.It showed that the viewing angle characteristics of the new electrode structure is better than that of PVA.
