The invention discloses an automatic driving system and driving method based on an existing map. The system comprises a travel state detection unit, a barrier information detection unit, a barrier information processing unit, an image acquisition unit, a map database, a master control unit and an execution unit, wherein the travel state detection unit, the barrier information processing unit, the image processing unit and the map database are connected with the master control unit, the barrier information processing unit is also connected with the barrier information detection unit, and the image processing unit is also connected with the image acquisition unit and the barrier information processing unit. The system and method provided by the invention have the advantages of high translatability, low barrier misjudgment rate, accurate vehicle lane determination, more reasonable path planning, safer automatic driving and the like.
