Separability of the nuclear residual two-body interaction

Abstract The giant resonance of 16 O has been computed in the one particle-one hole approximation with a finite range two-body force and a separable force constructed from it in a systematic fashion. For this case a separable force, which corresponds to the exchange of a single value of the momentum reproduces with a very high accuracy the results obtained with the complete force.
