Mumps/File Manager/Snomed-Based Computer Program for Surgical Pathologic Services

1985
The described data management system for surgical pathology services is located in the 1200-bed University Central Hospital of Tampere, Finland. The department of pathology serves over 37000 patients with 18000 tissue biopsies and 22000 cytological samples annually. Nearly 700 autopsies are performed per year. The system operates on a DEC PDP 11/23 computer and is programmed in MUMPS and File manager systems. The equipment consists of 2+2 disk bases (RL-02) with 10, 4 megabytes each. All the data concerning patients, their hospital units, pathologists, special laboratory procedures (e. g. immunofluorescence studies, frozen section examinations, tissue frozen and stored), diagnoses and their comments are entered in on-line storage. All diagnostic data are coded via SNOMED. The data entry and retrieval are interactive through videoterminals.
