CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF TWO VARIETY OF PROPOLIS FROM CAMPOS

This study aimed to develop a general method of fractionation achieving from the same sample, essential oils and then the aqueous extract, for the isolation and chemical analysis using two propolis samples from the Region of the Campos Gerais of Parana. The analysis of essential oils by GC/MS allowed the identification of more than 28 compounds being the major compounds, spathulenol, (E)-nerolidol, 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol and benzylbenzoate confirmed by 1 H NMR and 13 C. The extracts wer e analyzed by UV-Vis and the substances isolated by IR and NMR of 1 H and 13 C. These analyses showed that two aromatic acids, namely benzoic and cinnamic, may be considered as marker substances of the two samples of propolis.
