Prediction of service life with a view to the development of a system of micrometer surface cracks

The article substantiaties theoretically the experimentally confirmed circumstance that the lengths of small cracks on the surface of deformed materials have log-normal distribution with invariable parameters. Distribution functions of life are obtained for the time before the appearance of cracks with specified maximal length on the surface and before the amalgamation of small cracks entailing the nucleation of the initial macrocrack.
