Self-triggering streamer chamber and its applications to nuclear physics

1970
Abstract A self-triggering streamer chamber has been constructed, which is operated by the triggering of pulses due to gas scintillation following the passage of charged particles in the gas of the chamber. This type of detector seems to be one of the promising track detectors fitted for low energy nuclear physics. A gas mixture consisting of Ne(99.5%)+N 2 (0.5%) was found to be suitable for the operation of the chamber. Successful operation of the self-triggering streamer chamber has been demonstrated by using a weak polonium α source. Some experiments on nuclear reactions which might easily be performed with this apparatus are suggested.
