Characterization of Technical Surfaces With a Coupled SEM-EDA-Image Analyzer System

The subject of these studies were so-called limiters1,2 used in fusion reactors. At the present time the plasma cannot always be fed so exactly centrically through the magnetic fields in the vacuum vessel that contact with the vessel wall can be ruled out. In order to protect the vacuum wall plasma limiters are arranged between the plasma and the vessel wall. The limiters studied here are blocks of high-temperature resistant alloy or graphite coated with titanium carbide (TiC).
