Analysis on Influence Factors of Public Participation in Cultural Heritage Conservation a Case of Kaiping Diaolou in Guangdong, China

In China, cultural heritage conservation is mainly dominated by government officials and experts. The public are not only the creators of cultural heritage, but also the owners and inheritors of cultural heritage. Therefore, it is necessary for the general public participate in the cultural heritage conservation. Through questionnaires and interviews, this paper examines the factors that influence the public effectively participate in the cultural heritage conservation, including cultural factors, lacking of institutional basis, conflicts of interest from the different stakeholders, propaganda and education of heritage conservation, lacking of ability of heritage conservation etc. Then some recommendations are put forward to encourage people participate in the heritage conservation so as to promote the sustainable development of cultural heritage.
