Phage Therapy for Alcoholic Hepatitis.

2020
In this seminal work entitled "Bacteriophage Targeting of Gut Bacterium Attenuates Alcoholic Liver Disease", Duan et al.,(1) reduced alcohol-induced hepatic injury in humanized mice using bacteriophages (phages) to target specific bacteria implicated in alcoholic liver disease. This result has significant implications for the potential treatment of alcoholic hepatitis (AH), the most severe form of alcohol-related liver disease, as well as the therapeutic potential of phages.
