The effect of preoperative regional intra-arterial infusion somatostatin and Astragalus on proliferation, apoptosis and angiogenesis of colorectal carcinoma

2012
Objective To evaluate the influence of preoperative regional intra-arterial infusion somatostatin and Astragalus on the proliferation, apoptosis and angiogenesis of colorectal carcinoma. Methods 60 patients with colon cancer were randomly divided into four groups, with 15 patients in each group, which were somatostatin combined with Astragalus injection group (group A),simple somatostatin group (group B),simple Astragalus group (group C),0.9% sodium chloride solution group (group D),respectively. These patients were treated by preoperative intra-arterial infusion with corresponding drugs plus routine chemotherapeutics. The changes of tumor blood vessel density (MVD),VEGF staining,Ki labeling index (Ki67LI) and apoptosis index (AI) were observed. Results The MVD in group A,B,C,D was 10±6,16±8,19±6,29±15,respectively,the expression of VEGF was 20%,46.67%,53.33%,80%,respectively,and Ki67LI was 8±3,13±5,14±5,18±6,respectively,and AI was 5.6±0.6,3.1±0.4,2.9±0.6,1.2±0.3,respectively.There were significant differences in these data between group A and group B,group C (P0.05).Conclusion The regional intra-arterial infusion can promote cell apoptosis and inhibit proliferation of carcinoma, and the therapeutic effect of adding somatostatin combined with Astragalus is superior to that of simple somatostatin or simple Astragalus on colon cabcer, which can enhance anti-tumor effect.
