Conclusion: Early NT with currently available energy-rich EN formulae is insufficient to ensure adequate protein delivery. New EN formulae with a more favourable nitrogen to non-protein energy ratio are necessary, especially as NNES contribute mainly to carbohydrate intake. These formulae may offer a more cost-effective and safer solution to optimisation of protein delivery.
