Study of Developing a Digital Textbook for Statistical Activities on an iPad

In the knowledge-based society with sophisticated information technology, the way of education has been changing day by day. And the projects for promoting using new type of ICT in elementary schools and junior high schools have started by MEXT and Ministry of Internal Af- fairs and Communications at the same time. These p rojects are to know how students use portable terminals in learning activities and also they also discuss the developing a digital textbook. On the other hand, we have a lot of chances to extract meaningful information from massive amounts of data and make decisions or create new idea with this information. Therefore, it becomes important to know how these data are characterized by analyzing them statistically. The teaching style of statistics must be changed from old style by only calculation with mathematical formula. We devel- oped the digital textbook for statistical activities through Web site with spreadsheets and examined it on the portable terminal, iPad.
