The essay relates the history of August Rodin in Italy to the personality of the Turin sculptor Gigi (Luigi) Chessa. It explores the dependence of much of the Italian sculpture of the first half of the twentieth century from contemporary French research. Building around a brilliant Gigi Chessa, his French culture, his versatility and the original genesis of his research, the study represents a new interpretation of his important work as ceramic sculptor. The insight on the work of Gigi Chessa as a sculptor and designer is based on stylistic comparisons and his culture and works are the objects of a critical analysis according to new studies and iconographic findings.
