Correlation between cardiovascular risk factors and severity of coronary artery lesion in aged patients with coronary artery disease

2011
Objective To evaluate the correlation between multiple cardiovascular risk factors and the severity of coronary artery lesion in aged patients who had with coronary artery disease(CAD).Methods Four thousand eight hundred and one patients who had undergone coronary angiography were enrolled, among them CAD was diagnosed in 3591(74.8%,2189 males and 1402 females). The relationship between the risk factors and the severity of CAD in elderly patients was analyzed by both single factor analysis and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis. The severity of coronary artery lesion was expressed by the number of stenosed vessels and the CAD Gensini cumulative index. The cardiovascular risk factors enrolled in the analysis included age, gender, hypertension, habit of smoking, type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia. Results The extent and severity of CAD were correlated with the increased proportion of each individual risk factor.Logistic regression analysis showed that diabetes was a prominent predictor for CAD(OR=2.243,95%CI 1.826-2.755,P < 0.001),and it was the most important risk factor in male patients(OR=1.850,95%CI 1.374-2.491,P < 0.001).Diabetes and smoking were the most important risk factors in female patients. Conclusion Type 2 diabetes is the most predominant risk factor of CAD in elderly patients, especially in females. The treatment of risk factors should be taken care of differently.
