2020
Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between feeding problems of children with disabilities and dysphagia and depression, stress, education needs of mothers. Methods Fifty four pairs of children with disabilities and their mothers participated in this study. The list of general characteristics of children with disabilities and their mothers was children age, gender, disability type, mother's age, education level and economic status. The clinical assessment used the Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale (BPFAS) to assess the feeding ability of children with disabilities. Depression and stress of mothers were measured by Korean Beck Depression Inventory (K-BDI) and Parenting Stress Index-Short Form (K-PSI-SF). The education needs of mothers were measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to investigate the factors affecting the swallowing difficulty of children with disabilities. Results As feeding problems of children with disabilities became more serious, the mother's depression and stress increased. Of these, mother's stress was the most relevant. The feeding problems of children with disabilities were significantly associated with educational needs for children with disabilities perceived by mothers. Conclusion Our findings suggest that the feeding problems of children with disabilities are linked to mothers' depression and stress, and educational needs.
