The correlation between anxiety levels and spiritual activities with motivation to recover in pulmonary tuberculosis

Abstract Objective This study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and spiritual activity with motivation to recover in TB patients. Method This research utilized correlational research design with cross sectional approach. There were ninety two patients of TB who sought treatment at three primary health centers in Surabaya between October-November 2018. Data were collected using the HRS-A (Hamilton Rating Scale Anxiety) questionnaire, the Spiritual Activity Questionnaire and the Motivation for Healing Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's Rho test. Results There was significant correlation between anxiety and motivation to recover (p = 0.000; r = −0.436). In addition, the spiritual activity also significantly correlated with motivation to recover (p = 0.000; r = 0.743). Conclusion An increased level of anxiety decreased motivation to recover in patients with TB, but increased of spiritual activity were increased motivation to recover in patients with TB.
