Restructuring of Statistics Sweden

1. Summary One of the overall objectives for Statistics Sweden according to the appropriation directions is to provide easily accessible statistics of good quality that meet the needs of society. The costs to data providers should be reduced, the quality of the statistics should continue to be good and the coordination of the production of statistics within Statistics Sweden should improve. Improvements to economic statistics, in particular the National Accounts, have been prioritised. Statistics Sweden's vision is to be “a world leader in the development, production and dissemination of statistics”. With the aim of achieving the operational vision and objectives for Statistics Sweden and, on the basis of organisational decisions taken in November 2003 and in June 2005, a number of changes have been implemented within the organisation. Two departments for indata and a unit for register coordination and microdata access have been established. The decision included improvements to the National Accounts as well as measures to strengthen coordination in the production of statistics. The changes implemented on 1 January 2006 affected the organisational structure primarily in relation to the subject area departments. All support departments remain largely unchanged.
