Simulation of monoterpene emission in a temperate forest on Changbai Moutain

2012
Volatile organic compound(VOC) emission fluxes were quantified using the relaxed eddy accumulation(REA) technique on an above-canopy tower in a temperate forest on Changbai Mountain,China during the summer season in 2010.Meteorological parameters, solar global radiation and photosynthetically active radiation(PAR) were also measured during the same period of time.An empirical model for calculating canopy scale monoterpene emission flux was developed based on PAR energy conservation. The model was able to explain much of the observed variations. On the average, the simulated fluxes were about 20% to 40% higher than the measured.Different methods were used to validate the empirical model and the results showed that it was a better way to compare the averages of the measured and simulated emission fluxes.Improved simulations were obtained for the averages of monoterpene emission fluxes at different time periods in 2010 summer, and the simulated fluxes were 20%~24% higher than those measured.
