Variable Fractional Delay Filter: A Novel Architecture Based on Hermite Interpolation

2018
This paper proposes a method for generating low complexity architectures of variable fractional delay filters based on Hermite interpolation. Based on the proposed technique, two novel architectures are introduced to realize modified Newton structures of order three and five. The computational complexity and the performance of these two structures are compared with those of the similar structures based on Lagrange and B-spline interpolations, which are the most commonly used in the field. We show that the proposed Hermite based structures can achieve better filtering performance by combining the advantages of the two other interpolation methods, while having substantially lower hardware complexity.
