Network management: open source solutions to proprietary problems

ABSTRACT The deployment of network management technologies in most college and university environments is similar to network management deployments in large enterprises in the private sector; most contain some remnants of a failed deployment of one of the “framework” tools. However, in academia, there is usually a follow-on deployment of some set of open source network management tools which support daily operations.
