Structure of the high-boiling by-products of the direct synthesis of chloromethylsilanes

1988
Chromato-mass spectrometry and chromato-mass fragmentography were used to identify the components of the clarified still fractions from the manufacture of chloromethylsilanes. Sixteen peaks were observed on the chromatogram at full ionic current; the most intense peaks were 1, 8, 9, and 13. Mass-spectrometric data showed that compounds corresponding to peaks 1 and 2 were homologs and each contained 2 chlorine atoms. The main high-boiling by-products of the direct synthesis of chloromethyl-silaines were chloroalkylsilanes, disiloxanes, disilanes, and disilylmethanes with various numbers of methyl substituents and chlorine atoms on the silicon atoms.
