REAST CANCER RISK FACTORS AND KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVYOURS OF NURSING AND MYDWYFERY STUDENTS ABOUT BREAST SELF EXAMYNATYON

Aim : This study carried out in order to determine the breast cancer risk factors and knowledge and behaviours of breast self examination (BSE) nursing and midwifery student in university. Material-Methods : This study is descriptive type. The population of the research consisted of nursing and midwifery students of Fyrat University Health of High School in the academic year 2004-2005 (n=300). Sample group was not selected in the research. Of the study group , 283 student were reached (% 94.33). The data were collected using a questionnaire containing 35 questions. Results: The average age of the student covered in the study was 20+68±2.01. It was found out that % 51.9 of the students departmant of midwifery and that % 29 of the students first year in high school. % 58.3 of the student covered in the study was inquired about BSE and of the students % 55.5 performed BSE. Of the student who perform BSE % 56.7 perform it once a month. The answer to the question what the most common syptom was in breast cancer was mass in the breast in % 24, pain in the breast in % 20.5, growth in the breast in % 18.
