The invention discloses a glass steel pipe outer insulating layer structure for an oil field. The structure comprises a glass steel pipe, an insulating layer and a protective shell arranged from inside to outside in sequence, wherein the insulating layer is manufactured by an opening hard foaming material; a water soluble color development agent is added in the opening hard foaming material; and the protective shell is manufactured by a colorless and transparent material. In the glass steel pipe outer insulating layer structure for the oil field provided by the invention, continuous channels in all directions are formed in the insulating layer through the opening structure; if a pipe body is leaked, a conveying medium can be dispersed to the lower part of the external protective shell along the channels in the insulating layer; and in the dispersing process, the medium meets the color development agent in the channels; the water contained in the medium enables the color developing agent to develop color; and as the protective shell is colorless and transparent, eyes can see the color change in the insulating layer to position a failure position.
