The Susceptibility of a Dog Kidney Cell-line (MDCK) to Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis and Canine Herpes Viruses

1970
MDCK cells were found to support the replication of canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis and canine herpes viruses. They were less susceptible to canine herpesvirus than were secondary dog kidney cultures but, up to the 125th sub-culture, gave larger and more clearly defined plaques under agar. High dilutions of distemper virus produced an obvious cytopathic effect (CPE) in secondary cultures within 12 days but required 3 to 4 weeks to produce a similar effect in MDCK monolayers.
