Complex dielectric properties of macroemulsions using a calibrated microwave resonance dielectrometer

1985
Abstract A microwave cavity resonance dielectrometer has been employed in a study of the complex dielectric properties of macroemulsions consisting of oil, water, and stabilizing surfactant. A method for the simultaneous determination of emulsion type and water content from complex dielectric measurements is described. Also presented is a reference calibration technique for the microwave dielectrometer, which permits a convenient experimental routine and quite accurate dielectric measurements if referenced to exact standards. A voltage ratio technique is described which allows accurate measurement of both low- and high-loss samples in the same cavity.
