Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy: Room Setup, Patient Positioning, Instrumentation, and Anesthetic Considerations

2014
Successful robotic cystectomy relies on proper patient selection, surgical skill, and proper oncologic principles. This chapter describes proper room setup to allow for maximal space utilization when incorporating robotic technology. Patient positioning is described in detail to avoid potentially devastating neurological side effects. Alternatives to standard patient positioning are also described in order to accommodate various clinical situations. The various forms of surgical instrumentation are outlined in detail and anesthetic considerations are explained.
