Extravesical Ureteral Reimplantation (Lich-Gregoir)

2021
Vesico-ureteral reflux is a common anomaly encountered in pediatric urology practice. The diagnosis is generally made by voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG). Although not all cases of vesico-ureteral reflux need to be repaired, in cases of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) or persistent high-grade reflux, surgical correction is a potential intervention to prevent pyelonephritis and future renal scarring. Due to the high postoperative morbidity associated with open reimplantation, minimally invasive techniques have been developed as alternatives. The advent of surgical telemanipulator or robotic systems solved the ergonomic problems associated with conventional laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery. Robot-assisted extravesical ureteral reimplantation (REVUR) has been proven as a safe and effective alternative to open reimplantation.
