The post-coital test (PCT) has been a subject of controversy since it was first advocated by Sims in 1866. Opinions on the value of the test in infertility investigations are still divided. Protagonists find the post-coital test a useful monitor of sexual function, an indicator of sperm action, a barometer of periovular hormonal1 status and a basic screen for the detection of the cervical factor2.
