The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment on Carbon Intensity—Empirical Study Based on Chinese Provincial Dynamic Panel Data

2013
Economic development depends on a lot of fossil energy inputs;as a result, climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions is threatening the whole world. Most developing countries lack adequate resources and technical capacity to deal with severe weather risk.As a developing country, China is constantly trying to expand the independent research and must rely on technology spillovers of developed countries to obtain advanced low-carbon technologies, then can reduce the emissions in order to complete the energy saving and emission reduction commitments. In this paper, provincial panel data and dynamic panel model are applied to study the technology spillovers of foreign direct investment on China's carbon intensity. The results show that technology spillovers of foreign direct investment in China effectively reduce the carbon intensity, which provides a new perspective to achieve emission reduction targets in China.
