A hybrid LBM for flow with particles and drops

2017
Abstract In this paper, we develop a hybrid lattice Boltzmann method to simulate a multiphase flow such that one or both liquid and gas phase can have solid particles and liquid drops dispersed within it. The pseudo-potential model proposed by Shan and Chen [1] is used to simulate the two-phase flow, and the solid particle model proposed by Niu [2] is modified to account for adhesive forces between the particle and drop. The hybrid method is evaluated using several test cases of the binary drop collision, sedimentation of solid particles in a viscous fluid and a lid-driven cavity flow with particles and drops. Comparison with results obtained by other numerical methods and experiments shows that the present method has good stability, simplicity and adaptability to simulating the complex liquid–gas–particle flow systems.
