Análisis de la importancia del modelo de consistencia de velocidad en curvas cerradas de una carretera rural

2020
Deaths due to traffic accidents have exceeded 1.35 million worldwide, according to the National Traffic Agency in Ecuador, there are 2.180 deceased people, realizing that there is no emphasis on reducing traffic accidents in our country. Only 4% of accidents occur due to factors such as poor road conditions, most traffic accidents occur on sharp horizontal curves, to obtain a stable speed it should be related to the geometric characteristics of the road. To have a consistent road, speed profile models are used that are based on calculated speeds for the design or operational stage. This research analyzed the importance of the speed consistency model in tight curves of a rural highway, choosing, as a case study, the Colta - Bucay section of the E487 road, which consists of two lanes in the opposite direction, the same that was built under the Ecuadorian Highway Geometric Design Standard (2003), for which the limits speed with the help of the IHSDM software and the operational speed carried out in the field were calculated. As a result of this research, it was concluded that the operational speed is important to obtain a road consistency design model and that among the Geometric design standards for highways in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, the Peruvian standard presents more favorable conditions, since it uses operating speed to set the geometric elements of a highway.
