Simulation for Operating Additional Buses Based On Demand In Toyota City Low-Carbon Society Verification Project

2013
The Toyota City Low-Carbon Society Verification Project is aimed at constructing an energy-efficient low-carbon-emission society for next-generation, and it consists of several sub-projects to reduce CO₂ emissions for the housing sector, transportation sector, commercial and public facilities, and in the whole community. Traffic congestion is one of the biggest social problems in modern society. The Traffic Data Management System (TDMS) has been developed to solve this problem at the community level. However, the TDMS has the possibility of over- or under-estimating the traffic demands of the various modes of travel because it is very difficult to deal with micro-level information like the resources of transportation operators. The authors developed a simulation method that combines the TDMS with a bus operation planning simulator owned by the bus operator and conducted simulations of putting additional buses on routes when needed.
