During the first days of February 2003 there were an important flood in the Ebro River, because of the high runoffs during the first days of February due to the combination of heavy rains and the quick snow melting in its tributaries upstream catchments. Maximum peak flows of 3.320 m/s in the early morning of the 6 of February in Castejon (Navarra) and 2.988 m/s in the early morning of the ninth in Zaragoza, were registered. The Ebro River Basin Authority carried out an intensive follow-up of this event. The spatial and time evolution of this event could be studied thank to the combined use of various monitoring techniques on the ground (data provided by the Automatic Hydrologic Information System, observation on the ground) and from the air.
