Effects of Fast Neutrons and Gamma Rays on Seedling Height and Chromosome Aberrations in Barley

1974
Barley seeds were irradiated with 600 rads (CH) of fast neutrons and 6 Krads of gamma rays prior to or after gamma and fast neutron irradiation of varying doses. Since the reduction in seedling height was not linear in response, synergistic effect was obtained and this was explained to be due to the selection of respective doses in the shoulder region of the curve. The chromosome fragments and anaphase bridges showed an additive effect with combined treatments.
