Gender differences in individuals with suicide attempt from a general hospital setting in Bengaluru, India

Objective: Gender-related risk factors in individuals with suicide attempts vary according to the region in India. These gender-related factors have implications in determining the nature of psychiatric treatment in such individuals. This study reports on gender differences in individuals with recent suicide attempts evaluated by the Assertive Management of Attempted Suicide (AMAS) service in a general hospital setting in Bengaluru, India. Subjects and Methods: The authors extracted data pertaining to the demographic and illness details from 494 case records from January 2016 to December 2017. Results: Women were more likely to be married and homemakers, whereas men were more likely to be farmers, unemployed, and single.
