Driver Factor Characteristics of Traffic Safety on the Low Traffic Volume Qinghai-Tibet Highway in China

2010
Traffic safety on low traffic volume highway is one of the hidden threats against road traffic safety and the characteristic of driver factor is an important factor which cannot be neglected among various accident causes in China. The present study conducts a test on driver factor of 25 drivers. It chooses the Geermu-Kunlun Mountain Entrance road section of the low traffic volume Qinghai-Tibet Highway as its trial section. The instruments concluding dynamic GPS, dynamic electrocardiogram and eye tracker are proposed as real-time measurement of subject drivers’ driving speed, vision point, driving workload, and other parameters and indexes. This study analyzes the human factor which vehicle running speed and track characteristics of driving behavior, eye movement and driver behavior of driver characteristics based on the dynamic interaction among driver, vehicle, road, and environment. Compared with traffic accident on low traffic volume highway in plateau area, experimental research conclusion indicates that driver factor is the key factor of traffic accident. The conclusions provide an important reference for traffic safety technology and management on low traffic volume highway in plateau area.
