Low-temperature HPGe detectors

1996
Several planar HPGe detectors with sensitive thickness ranging from 1.2 to 7.3 mm were produced by relatively simple technology using vacuum evaporation and diffusion and repeatedly tested at LHe temperature. Good reproducibility and stable performance of detectors was observed and the resolution for both conversion electrons and γ-rays at 5 K did not significantly change compared to the value at LN2 temperature. Successful operation of detectors and their suitability for low-temperature nuclear orientation (LTNO) experiments has been tested using a dilution refrigerator of the KOOL on-line nuclear orientation facility in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. These detectors are to be used in the measurements of beta-asymmetries in LTNO experiments planned at NICOLE-ISOLDE, CERN, Switzerland.
